Young people age 8 – 18 are invited to design their own Superhero this school holidays at Encircle, Pine Rivers Neighbourhood centre and headspace Caboolture to discover their own Inner Hero and to appreciate the amazing skills they already possess.
After receiving funding from RADF (Regional Arts Development Fund) to bring my idea of superhero workshops to life and I have been working hard to develop a fun a hands on workshop plan as well as to create some art work around this theme.
I am passionate about stories; it doesn’t matter whether they are fairy tales, comics, a three volume novel, a story told around a camp fire or with a lot of CGI up on the big screen. But often the most interesting stories are told in the lives of people everyday, the lived stories of experience. And you really can’t make that stuff up, what people can go through and still come out stronger on the other side, is incredible.
So I am excited to give young people an opportunity to tell their story, to show visually through mixed media and collage, how they have overcome challenges in their lives and to explore the expression of their Inner Hero. Everyone has skills and abilities that makes them special, even YOU.
Thank-you to headspace Caboolture, Encircle and In Mind Therapy for partnering with me on delivering these workshops and to Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Moreton Bay Regional Council and In Mind Therapy for the funding that allows me to offer this workshop completely FREE to participants.
